Liberal Democracy as the Foundation of Western Prosperity and Security

On December 4–5, 2026, the Bavarian Research Alliance for Peace, Conflict and Security (FoKS), together with the Amerikahaus Munich, will host the Winter School on Trade and Security 2026.

The two-day Winter School will explore the relationship between liberal democracy, economic prosperity, and international security. Particular attention will be paid to the challenges posed by illiberalism, nationalism, and populism, as well as strategies to strengthen democratic resilience and transatlantic cooperation.

Through expert lectures, interactive discussions, collaborative policy exercises, and crisis simulations, participants will engage with pressing questions at the intersection of democracy, trade, and security.

The Winter School is open to young scholars, doctoral candidates, and professionals aged 23–30 with backgrounds in political science, international relations, law, economics, sociology, or related disciplines.
